Wisconsin Governor Kicks Off Fishing Season, Recognizing Boating's Economic Impact

Proudly sponsoring the annual Wisconsin Governor’s Fishing Opener over the weekend, the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) joined Wisconsin outdoor enthusiasts to celebrate the significant economic impact of recreational boating and fishing in the state.

“This is an event that transcends politics,” said Wisconsin Governor, Tony Evers in his remarks. Fishing and anything outdoors is something that brings us all together.”

The Northwest Wisconsin event was held in Burnett County on Yellow Lake to kickoff the rich outdoor heritage that fishing provides to the region.

Recreational boating is not just a leisure activity, but a substantial contributor to the state’s economy. In fact, recreational boating and fishing contributes over $8.4 billion in annual economic impact that supports 34,000 jobs at nearly 850 businesses in Wisconsin.

During the Governor’s Fishing Opener, Jesse McArdell Policy and Engagement Manager for the Midwest, had the opportunity to engage with policymakers, industry leaders, and outdoor enthusiasts to discuss the importance of preserving and promoting Wisconsin’s waterways.

“The Fishing Opener is not just about fishing, it’s about recognizing the economic engine and recreational pastime that boating and fishing are for Wisconsin,” said McArdell. “From families enjoying a day on the water to countless businesses that rely on boating, it’s clear that this industry is a key factor for economic growth.”
