NMMA recently spearheaded a coalition of small engine manufacturers and consumer groups to draft and submit a letter to Congress calling for the enactment of common sense solutions to the existing misfueling mitigation plan (MMP). The existing MMP fails to adequately protect the millions of small engine consumers against the dangers of mid-level blends of ethanol like E15—time after time, data shows that the American public is unaware of E15 and its harmful effects on small engines.

As reported in Oil & Gas Journal, more needs to be done to protect consumers from damaging recreational vehicle engines by accidentally using fuels that have ethanol concentrations of 15% or higher in an Oct. 13 letter to leaders of the US Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and House Energy and Commerce Committee.

The letter outlined five achievable steps that, if enacted, would provide more effective protection against E15, as well as do a better job of educating the American consumer on this new fuel blend. The letter, signed by eight leading trade associations, was delivered to leaders and members of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and the House Energy and Commerce Committee with the goal of laying the foundation for meaningful and needed change to this increasing problem.
