NMMA's Vasilaros Inducted to USCG National Boating Safety Advisory Council

Last week, Nicole Vasilaros, NMMA senior vice president of government relations and legal affairs, was inducted to the United States Coast Guard's National Boating Safety Advisory Council by USCG Vice Admiral Dan Abel, Deputy Commandant for Operations in Cape May, New Jersey. The Council consistently provides invaluable advice to the USCG on safety matters and as NMMA works closely with the USCG and advocates on safety issues on behalf of members, Vasilaros' involvement on the Council will ensure a voice for the broader recreational boating industry. In addition to Vasilaors, other industry representatives on the Council include Wayne Burdick, marine industry consultant, Pete Chisholm, Mercury Marine, Jim Emmons, Water Sports Industry Association (WSIA), Bruce Rowe, Forever Resorts, David Slikkers, S2 Yachts, Wanda Kenton Smith, Kenton Smith Marketing, and Tim Williams, Edgewater Boats.

The NBSAC was established by the Federal Boat Safety Act of 1971. The law requires the Secretary of Homeland Security, and the Commandant of the Coast Guard by delegation, to consult with the Council in prescribing Federal regulations, and regarding other major boating safety matters.

The Director of Inspections & Compliance (CG-5PC) in Coast Guard Headquarters is the Council's Sponsor, and the Chief, Office of Auxiliary and Boating Safety (CG-BSX) is NBSAC's Designated Federal Officer (DFO). Vasilaros' term runs through December 2019.
