Canada Has No Retaliatory Tariffs on U.S.-Made Boats at This Time
In response to recent developments surrounding U.S. tariffs on imported vehicles, the Government of Canada has announced limited retaliatory measures—focused on U.S.-made autos to match what the U.S. has imposed on Canada. Notably, Canadian officials have not imposed tariffs on American-made recreational boats at this time.
This is significant news for the marine industry, while the U.S. administration’s announcement last week triggered immediate concerns of a broader trade escalation, Canada’s current response does not include American-built boats.
While recreational boats remain on the much larger list of products identified for possible Canadian retaliation, Canada has not yet pulled the tariff lever on U.S. boats.
NMMA Canada has been working diligently to support members by applying for tariff exemptions and is continuously engaging with Canadian officials and monitoring the situation closely to protect the marine industry from being drawn into this broader trade dispute. This measured response by Canada provides continued, though potentially temporary, stability for cross-border marine trade.
We will continue to keep NMMA members informed of any developments. Please reach out to NMMA or NMMA Canada with any questions or if your business is affected by these evolving trade measures.
