NMMA Canada Hosts Successful 2025 Day on the Hill, Building Momentum for Repeal of Luxury Tax

NMMA Canada wrapped another highly successful Day on the Hill in Ottawa this month, bringing together industry leaders, government officials, and policymakers to advance priorities critical to Canada’s recreational boating sector. The central message this year was clear: the luxury tax is harming Canadian manufacturing and putting middle-class jobs at risk—and it must be repealed.

Over the course of two days, NMMA Canada’s Board of Directors and members participated in a series of high-level meetings with Members of Parliament, senators, senior government officials, and political staff. The discussions focused on the negative economic impacts of the luxury tax, as well as emerging concerns around potential tariffs that could further undermine the global competitiveness of Canada’s marine manufacturers.
The advocacy effort was bolstered by a vibrant display of Canadian-made boats along the Rideau Canal, where lawmakers and officials were invited aboard for firsthand experiences. The showcase underscored the strength and innovation of the Canadian boating industry—a sector that supports thousands of jobs and contributes significantly to the national economy.
The two-day initiative concluded with a well-attended evening reception featuring government representatives, agency officials, and key industry stakeholders. The event served as a powerful reminder of the unity and momentum behind the industry’s call for meaningful policy change.
NMMA Canada extends its sincere gratitude to the Board of Directors for their leadership and participation, and to the generous sponsors who made the event possible: Boating Ontario Association, CMRA, BRP, Mercury Canada, Yamaha Motor Canada Ltd., Mustang Survival, and Legend Boats.
As NMMA Canada Executive Director Marie-France MacKinnon noted, “Advocacy works—and we’re not slowing down.”
